Plumbing Invoices

Bill the service call, the drain job, and the water heater from the driveway.

Every plumbing job bills differently. A drain call is a flat fee and 45 minutes with the snake. A water heater replacement is supply, install, fittings, and disposal. InvoicePrepper lets you add every charge as its own line item, calculates your provincial tax automatically, and gives you a PDF to hand or email to the homeowner before you drive away.

How InvoicePrepper works for plumbers

It is a web app that runs in your phone browser. No download, no installation. You fill in a form, the app builds a professional invoice, and you get a PDF you can hand to a client or email from the job site.

1
Fill in the job
Add the client name, address, and as many line items as the job needs. Service call fee, hourly labour, each part used with its quantity and price. A drain call might be two lines. A water heater might be seven.
2
Tax is calculated for you
Your GST or HST rate is saved in your account. The app applies it to the subtotal automatically and shows the tax amount and total on the invoice. No manual math, no separate spreadsheet.
3
Send or download the PDF
Download the invoice as a PDF to text or share yourself, or use the Pro plan to email it directly from the app with your logo. The homeowner gets a professional document before you leave the property.

What the invoice looks like

This is a typical water heater replacement invoice generated by InvoicePrepper. Every charge is on its own line. The homeowner can see exactly what the unit cost, what your labour cost, and what the tax was. Clean enough to hand to a property manager or submit to a home warranty company.

Every plumbing job type, billed the right way

Drain clearing and rooter calls
Drain jobs are usually flat rate. Bill the rooter service as one line, then add extras as separate items: camera inspection, hydrojetting, or an access panel charge. If you return the next day because roots came back, add that visit as a second invoice or an additional line with a date note.
Water heater replacement
The unit, the labour, the fittings, and the disposal are all different costs and should appear separately on the invoice. Homeowners shopping for a second opinion want to know if they are being charged a fair price for the heater itself. Itemizing protects you and builds trust.
Fixture installation and rough-in
Whether it is a toilet, faucet, or new shutoff valve, list the fixture at your supply or marked-up price and your labour separately. If the homeowner supplied their own fixture, just bill labour and any hardware you added. No limit on how many fixtures appear on one invoice.
Emergency and after-hours calls
Add a flat after-hours surcharge line before or after the service call fee. Weekend and overnight calls bill at a premium and that premium needs to be visible on the invoice so there is no dispute when the homeowner sees the total. A written record protects you if a client disputes the charge weeks later.
Rough-in and new construction
Larger jobs run over multiple days and may have a permit fee. Add permit costs as their own line item. Use the invoice due date field to set net-15 or net-30 terms for a general contractor or property developer. Your invoice list shows which jobs are paid and which are still outstanding.

Provincial tax rates, applied automatically

Enter your rate once. Every new invoice applies it to the subtotal and shows the tax amount clearly. You never calculate it manually again.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add a parts markup without showing my cost?
Yes. Enter whatever price you want for each part. If a valve costs you $18 and you bill it at $28, enter $28. The invoice shows the client price only. Your cost and margin stay private.
How do I bill a diagnostic fee separately from repair labour?
Add the service call or diagnostic fee as the first line item at its flat rate. Add repair labour as a second line with hours and your hourly rate. Both appear on the invoice so the homeowner sees what each charge covers.
Can I track which invoices have been paid?
Yes. Your invoice dashboard shows every job with its payment status. Mark an invoice paid when the money comes in. Outstanding invoices stay visible so you always know what is owed.
Do I need to download an app or install anything?
No. InvoicePrepper runs in your phone browser. Safari, Chrome, or any mobile browser works. Sign in with Google in one tap. No download, no account setup form, no credit card required to start.
